6 Months!

As hard as it is for me to believe, Bowen is officially 6 months and 1 week old as of today. I honestly have no idea how time flies so fast, but it has! Since the last blog, we've moved on to trying new baby foods, all of which have been successful! He's still not fond of cereal, but will eat it if I mix it with some kind of fruit. I haven't pushed the vegetables very much yet, but we're going to do that this week. I have a feeling he won't be too fussy, but we'll see.

We went to the doctor last Friday for Bowen's 6 month check/shots, which is always fun since we ge to see how much he's grown from the last visit. He now weighs 19 pounds 10 ounces and was 26 inches long. He continues to be in the 80th percentile for his weight and head circumfrance, but was only in the 40th for length. We'll get there! Other than that, no teeth and not crawling!

One a side note, Bowen has been going to daycare for 3 months now and has been doing great! The kids there just love him and he comes home happy every day. It's so great to know that he's in good hands while I'm at work. Here's a picture of him from the other day!

And just for fun, here's a comparison of Bowen at 2 days old  and 6 months old! What happened to my little peanut?

Big Boy!

I've been lectured for not blogging enough, so I'm going to try an force myself to do at least one a week. You wouldn't think it would be hard, but I either can't find the time; don't have anything to talk about; or am just plain lazy. I'll work on it though, I promise!

As of today, we've only got 9 days to go until Bowen is 6 months old! I really can't believe how fast time has gone since he was born. He's developing into such a smart little boy! (Okay, maybe not so little, but you get the point.) He can now sit up by himself pretty good, and actually has been doing that for a few weeks now. He's still working on balance, but we're getting there. We've also started swimming in the bathtub! He's such a little fish. He'll swim around on his belly until he's as wrinkly as a raisin. It's adorable!

Our next new adventure is going to be eating. Within the past week he's really shown an interest in in it by watching Ben and I, so we went ahead and tried some cereal last night. He enjoyed the first few bites, but he got too inpatient and wantaed his bottle, so I didn't force it on him. I don't foresee him being too picky though, so it will be interesting to see what he enjoys most. I know when I was little I loved things like peas and squash, so I'm excited to try those with him!

I don't think we're anywhere close to crawling yet, but that's something else I'm looking forward to. He's gotten pretty active on his tummy, so it will be fun to see when he figures it out. Until then, I'll enjoy watching him squirm around on the floor.

5 Months

I haven't blogged for awhile now, so this could end up being a long one! We've been keeping busy at the Schwake house over the last month and Bowen has been growing like a weed. Between the two of us though, we've been passing colds back and forth and are just now getting back to our healthy selves. We first went through a week of a colds, which eventually developed into croup, with then another cold and fever the following week. And if that wasn't enough, I think it's now safe to say he's now teething. I wasn't sure at first, but he's been sporting rosey cheeks the past couple days, with tugging at the ears and has been drooling like crazy! He's been a trooper though, so I've got my fingers crossed it doesn't get too horrible for him, or me.

On a happier note, I'm proud to say that Bowen is officially sleeping in his crib now and he's been doing awesome! He has a few off nights wher he wakes up around 1:00 or 2:00 and wants a bottle, but he hasn't dont that for over a week now. He usually goes down around 7:30, has one bottle at 9:30, and sleeps until I wake him for daycare around 6:15'ish. On the weekends, he'll sleep in until 7:00, which is really awesome! All those talks I had with him while he was in my tummy must have paid off!

Bowen turned 5 months old on the 24th of March and weighs in around 18 or 19 pounds. Heck, he may even be 20 by now. I haven' weighed him at home for awhile, but I can definitely tell he's put a few more pounds on! I weighed the same at his age though when I was a baby, so I think he's taking after his mommy, considering his daddy was a little runt!! Ben weighed 20 pounds when he was a year old! Other than being a chubby baby, he's doing well at sitting up on his own and he reaches out when you ask him if he wants to come to you. It's so cute!  I wish I had a recent photo on hand, but I have sadly been slacking. I'll work on that!

Spring Fever!

I just can't get over how nice it was this weekend! In fact, I think I've come down with Spring fever! I'm really looking forward to doing things outside with Bowen this summer and can't wait to add a few fun things to our backyard like a pool and sandbox. In the meantime, we were finally able to put up the swing he got from Grandma and Grandpa Schwake for Christmas. He absolutely loves it! He was a little tired when we went outside to swing, however, so it didn't take more than a few pushes before he fell asleep. We'll have to give it another try this week!

Canvas

Bowen had his 3-month pictures taken back in January, and after much procrastination on my part, I finally got around to ordering prints a little over a week ago. There were so many cute pictures that it was too hard to choose which ones were worth ordering! There was one particular photo, however, that Ben and I loved, so we went ahead and ordered a 20x30 canvas print of it. It turned out really nice, and I can't get enough of the face that's on it!

4 Months...

People are always talking about how fast kids grow, and I tell you what; they're not lying! Bowen is four months old today and seems to be getting bigger by the day. He had his four month checkup at Mayo this afternoon so I took the day off to spend time with him and accompanied him to his appointment. I knew going into it that he was likely going to measure bigger than most babies his age, but it really doesn't bother me. He's a healthy, happy, little boy. Well, maybe not little? He weighed in at 16 pounds 12 ounces and measured 24 inches in length. Percentage wise, that puts him at 83% for weight, 34% for length and 82% for his head. If that means he's short, fat and big headed, I'm okay with that. I wouldn't have him any other way and think he's the cutest little boy I know!

Here's a picture of Bowen at birth, and then one from today. The one from today isn't the greatest, but as far as showing how much he's grown, it will suffice.

Why not?

Soooo, here I am on a Monday night laying in bed next to my snoring husband, watching Jersey Shore and playing an occasional game of Where's My Water on my ipod when I decide to take a stab at blogging. I know quite a few people who do it, and since Ben is always encouraging me to find new hobbies, I figured, why not? I spend enough time on the computer the way it is, so I might as well add another online addiction; Facebook, Pinterest and now blogging! I'm not exactly sure where this will go, but I guess we'll find out together. Here goes nothing!

It's currently 8:37 p.m. and the excitement of my night is that Bowen has been sleeping in his crib for over an hour now. We've been talking about transitioning him to his crib for awhile now, but haven't actually tried putting him in there other than the occasional daytime nap which has never lasted more than 20 minutes. I guess you could say it's a combination of being lazy and not wanting to change up our routine, but it's also scary to think that he'll be sleeping in his own room, in his own bed, alone. He'll be 4 months old on Friday, however, so it's probably time we start working on it. And besides, it's kind of nice being able to actually hear what I'm watching on TV, instead of Ben's obnoxiously loud snore. Wish us luck!

I think this will conclude my first blog. I really don't have anything to talk about, so instead of boring you, I'll call it quits and leave you with a picture of Bowen from earlier tonight. Isn't he handsome?
